Lily was adopted from us in 2016 and returned because her senior owner was no longer able to care for her. These are truly the saddest of situations for the animals. Lily herself is now a super senior at 13 1/2 years old. She looks great for her age though, she's a beauty! Medically she is doing well, she will just need to be on a liver supplement for the rest of her life and have regular check ups to continue to monitor everything. She has an old gal meow that sounds likes she is not happy but its the exact opposite. She loves gentle pets, human attention and even batting at wand toys. The JSAC has careful policies on the placement of young animals, dominant breed dogs (Rottweilers, Shepherds, Akitas, etc). Due to our lifelong return policy we prefer to adopt our pets locally, so we don't adopt out of state. We prefer homes in the region so that we can be a resource for the animals and their adopters. These policies and procedures are in place to protect everyone involved and are very common when rehoming animals, whether through a shelter or a rescue group. We do not have "same day" adoptions. Rather, an application for an animal is reviewed to ensure that 1) the home has taken good care of their other animals * 2) The animal is permitted in the home and 3) that it is the right home for the right animal (choosing dog that likes cats if cats already in household, etc..). Typically this process takes 24-48 hours. If a dog application is approved and there are other dogs in the home, we have the two (or more) dogs meet; many times if necessary.Shelter locationHours 1:00 - 4:00 P.M.
